- The Greatest Show on Earth was the first Florida film to win an Oscar for best picture. Shooting took place at the winter headquarters of the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus in Sarasota. Director-producer Cecil B. DeMille preferred that the actors perform all of their own stunts. However, veteran circus performers took on the more difficult tricks.
