A Century of Business: 1878–1971
The Union Bank building, originally located on Adams Street in downtown Tallahassee for more than 100 years, housed numerous businesses and organizations. The neoclassical structure was used as a church, a dance studio, a shoe factory, a beauty parlor, and state and county offices. These organizations included Black-owned businesses, businesses owned and operated by women, and charities. The history of the Union Bank building illustrates the diversity and resilience of the Tallahassee community.
