In 1999, Governor Jeb Bush signed a law providing for the creation of Florida's World War II Memorial. Led by the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs, the project has involved several state agencies, with support from private groups and individuals.

Components of Florida's World War II Memorial Project:

  • A permanent museum exhibit at the Museum of Florida History covering Florida's role in World War II
  • A colorful Florida World War II Heritage Trail guide documenting over 150 historical sites around the state
  • A state World War II monument, located on the grounds of the R. A. Gray Building in Tallahassee
