DIRECTIONS

Adjacent to Florida National Guard Headquarters, from US 1 proceed east on King Street to Aemenida Menendes. Turn right (four blocks) to Marine Street. The cemetery is in the first block.

Just barely older than the Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida, the first internment occurred at this site in 1828. Located on the grounds of a Spanish Period Franciscan monastery, this facility became a national cemetery in 1881. Remains of the soldiers killed with Major Francis Dade in December 1835 were moved to this cemetery in 1842 for reinternment.
