DIRECTIONS
The memorial is located on Monroe Street in front of the Leon County Courthouse at the southwest corner of the site.
This bronze piece, titled “Poppies,” serves to honor the veterans of World War II. Using a local veteran as his model, nationally recognized sculptor W. Stanley “Sandy” Proctor created this life-size statue which depicts a WWII veteran paying tribute to his fallen comrades. Resting on an eight-foot marble bench, this piece is the second of a limited edition of ten. In further tribute to veterans of World War II, personalized bricks are set around and incorporated as part of the memorial.
