Railway Ticket Receipt
On April 15, 1896, Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway arrived in Miami, Florida, for the first time. The expansion of the rail line occurred thanks to deals made with Miami-area business interests in June 1895. This receipt shows the passage of Mrs. C.H. McClure, wife of a Florida East Coast Railway flagman. The receipt was necessary for use to ride the rails. The train which carried Mrs. McClure was known as the Havana Special. It ran from the early 1920s until October 1962. (Railway Ticket Receipt, Florida East Coast Railway Company, November 6, 1960, Collection of the Museum of Florida History)
