Florida’s Oldest School House Postcard
This postcard shows the interior classroom of Florida’s oldest school house, located in St. Augustine, Florida. Notice the lack of desks and the small class size. The school house, which contained living quarters for the teacher and family on a second level, dates to 1716. It was one of the first in the United States to allow for schooling of both boys and girls, starting in 1788. (Collection of the Museum of Florida History)
