The Union Bank book, ca. late 1830s to June 21, 1852
Collection of the Museum of Florida History

The Union Bank book contains the handwritten minutes of board meetings, most in the hand of bank president John Gamble, from the late 1830s to June 21, 1852. Discovered at the Greenville, North Carolina, home of former Florida territorial governor John Branch, the Museum of Florida History received the book in 1986. In 1843, the Territorial Council suspended the banking privileges of the Union Bank. However, litigation involving the bank continued until the 1850s.
