Apollo 9

Apollo 9 launched on March 3, 1969, with the main goal of testing the manned Lunar Module, the spacecraft that astronauts would use to land on the Moon. This cover features the first “twin stamps” issued by the US Post Office. Twin stamps are a connected pair of stamps with one continuous image. The design of these twin stamps, first issued in 1967, was based on a 1965 Gemini mission spacewalk.
