Apollo 11

Trans World Airlines (TWA) contracted with NASA to provide a variety of support services for the space agency. This cover promotes TWA’s contributions to the Apollo 11 mission, the first crewed mission to land on the Moon. It launched on July 16, 1969. The cover features the first “twin stamps” issued by the US Post Office. Twin stamps are a connected pair of stamps with one continuous image. The design of these twin stamps, first issued in 1967, was based on a 1965 Gemini mission spacewalk.
