Zora Neale Hurston


This cacheted cover and commemorative stamp honor folklorist, anthropologist, and writer Zora Neale Hurston, author of works including the well-known novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, published in 1937. Hurston grew up in Eatonville, Florida, near Orlando. The US Post Office issued this stamp on January 24, 2003, as part of its Literary Arts stamp series. The first-day-of-issue ceremony took place at the annual Zora Neale Hurston Street Festival in Eatonville.
