Juan Ponce de Leon
These commemorative stamps and cacheted cover feature Juan Ponce de León, the first recorded European to reach Florida. The stamp was issued at San Juan, Puerto Rico, on October 12, 1982. Ponce de León had served as Spanish governor of Puerto Rico shortly before he landed in Florida in 1513. This cover is unusual because it also includes a second day of issue stamp canceled the next day in St. Augustine.
