Burger King Doll
Did you know the Burger King chain was started here in Florida? The roots of today’s Burger King started in Miami in 1954. James McLamore and David Edgerton bought a franchise for the Jacksonville based “Insta-Burger King.” They later bought the whole company and renamed it Burger King in 1961. In the late 1970s, Burger King started marketing to children by creating the “live” characters Burger King, the Wizard of Fries, and Sir Shake-a-Lot for their commercials. This doll was one of several rag dolls made for and distributed by Burger King. (Burger King Doll, ca. late 1970s, Collection of the Museum of Florida History)
