Moon Rock
Following man’s historic first landing on the moon on July 20, 1969, tiny samples of moon rocks were encased in small Lucite orbs and mounted on plaques which were distributed to each state. The samples shown here were collected on the Apollo 11 mission. Florida has a special place in the space program, since all manned flights to the moon have launched from Kennedy Space center on the state’s east coast. (Collection of the Museum of Florida History)
