Mail Carrier’s Satchel
Fred Polen carried this mail satchel beginning in the 1920s when he became a rural mail carrier for Lutz, Florida. The satchel has “US Mail” embossed on the front flap. The leather satchel was officially replaced by the light canvas models in 1973. The bag was collected by well-known local amateur historian Elizabeth Riegler MacManus. Elizabeth MacManus and her daughter, Dr. Susan MacManus, wrote the book Going, Going…Almost Gone: Lutz-Land O’ Lakes Pioneers Share Their Precious Memories.
