Wayne Dyer designed the Rat Trap lure in the early 1950s. It consisted of a spoon lure with the mechanical section of a rat trap attached.
A machine shop made the lures. Dyer also learned to make skirts for the lures, as seen on the left lure. He and a partner, Monk Hughes, set up an operation in Lake Alfred to make the skirts. While the lure was made only for a few years, the skirt operation continued for decades.
