Heyward “Red” Hutson, a native of South Carolina, moved to Florida around 1920. He lived in several places around the state, working for the Florida Motor Lines as a bus driver in Daytona Beach and later Jacksonville. Hutson made these pier bait-type lures and gave them away on his bus route. The lures became known as “The Bus Driver.”
