Juanita Curls Latta was one of the few women in the fly tying business. A skilled seamstress, she worked for Gaines Company in Pennsylvania, a fishing tackle producer, especially known for its flies. In 1966, she moved to Islamorada and in 1970 to Key West. In Florida, she continued to make and sell flies, and also made jigs. She sold them through mail order and tackle shops in the Keys. She sold her freshwater flies through tackle shops along the Florida-Georgia border. Latta moved to Georgia in the mid-1980s.
