- The World War II experiences of President John F. Kennedy in the Pacific provided the basis for this movie. Cliff Robertson plays the part of Kennedy, a choice approved by the President himself. Little Palm Island served as the filming location. Before the film crew arrived, the island had no electricity, running water, or telephones. Today it operates as an elegant resort.
