History at High Noon: The Sunshine State and Radio Waves

Tasha Weinstein, Education & Engagement Manager, and Tom Flanigan, Program Director for News, from WFSU FM discuss the history of radio in Florida. Since May 1948, WFSU Radio has been transmitting news, music, and opinions across the sunny skies of Florida State University and beyond. Life across the United States changed dramatically when radio became part of the American way of life, and this is so true in our Floridian life as well. Join our speakers for a quick time travel of Florida’s radio history, beginning in 1922 when the Tampa Daily Times tells readers, “Stand by, fans, to the Times test radio broadcast on WDAE-AM,” right up to what’s new on Capitol Report and this week’s Perspectives! Enjoy lunch during the program. Bring your own or buy from The Egg Express located on the ground floor of the R. A. Gray Building. To place your order with The Egg Express, call 850.354-8787 no later than 10:00 a.m. on the day of the program and pick it up before the program starts. See the lunch menu at Before or after the program, be sure to visit the Museum of Florida History and Florida’s History Shop to see what’s new! The program is free and open to the public.
