Poetry in the Jazz Age

In 1928, Luella Knott wrote lovely metered poems with careful rhymes and musical works with similar precision. Elsewhere, free verse and musical improvisation were popular, reflecting the influence of the Jazz Poetry movement. To celebrate this vibrant era, a Mardi Gras mood invades the Knott House Museum on Fat Tuesday, February 13, at 6:00 p.m. “Poetry in the Jazz Age” highlights literary and musical traditions of the period, with Dr. Yolanda Franklin reading Harlem Renaissance poetry as well as her own. Florida State University’s saxophonist Dr. David Detweiler and pianist Mason Margut* perform 1930s jazz. Guests decorate a decadent treat, courtesy of event cosponsor, Lucy and Leo’s Cupcakery. Participation is limited; guests should pre-purchase tickets at the Knott House. The cost is $8 for members or $10 for nonmembers. Call 850.922.2459 for information.
